Physical

There are varying physical demands in each branch. Generally speaking, potential servicemembers should be in good physical condition of appropriate weight and be able to pass a standard physical screening.

Education

Success and access to opportunities depends on a good education. A high school diploma is most desirable. Individuals with a GED can enlist, but some Services may limit opportunities.

AGE

You must be 18 years of age, or 17 years of age with parental consent. 

 

Entering the Military

There are many different ways to become part of the military. Most people choose between two types of service--enlisted or officer. Enlistment is the most common way to join and can be done so directly after highschool. Joining as a commissioned officer can be done after finishing college.
 
Enlisted Servicemembers-Enlisted servicemembers make up the majority of the Military. They are employed in almost every type of military career performing much of the hands-on work. You must have graduated from high school. A General Education Development (GED) certificate is only sometimes acceptable and may limit your opportunities. Officer-Officers are the managers of the military, planning and directing operations. They are employed in management roles or highly specialized fields. They have generally completed a 4 year college degree or more. For more information about becoming a Military Officer visit the links below.
