The Advanced Placement examinations are offered each May. This exam is the final step after completing a year in an AP class or an advanced course. It is recommended that students complete an AP before taking the exam but it is not a requirement. There are 34 exams in different subject areas. Most exams are on pencil and paper but some AP language exams are taken on a computer.

ASVAB

The ASVAB is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery which is a comprehensive assessment tool administered by the Department of Defense assessing whether candidates possess aptitudes, specific skills, and knowledge needed to enlist and qualify for certain military occupations.Used to identify occupations that best suit potential recruits and to determine whether an individual is eligible for incentive programs: enlistment bonuses, college repayment options. Not everyone qualifies for these. The military recommends a solid core of Mathematics, English, and Science. It is recommended you take it your junior or senior year.

For students that are not ready to further their education beyond high school, do not know what they want to do, and need some more time, a 13th year or gap year is an option.
