Joining the Military is a big decision. This information is to help you start the process of deciding if the military is right for you.

Freshman

Sophomore

Senior

  • Plan academics: select courses of Math, Science,           and English

  • Begin researching careers

  • Consider an internship in a field of interest.

  • Research career and military possibilities

Junior

  • Academics! Work hard to achieve in all of your classes

  • Continue to research military options

  • Look into the ASVAB

  • Begin the application process over the summer, before your senior year, for military academies or ROTC scholarships

  • ​Work hard to achieve in all of your classes

  • Talk to a recruiter

  • Research all of your options and the pros and                       cons of serving in the Military

  • Practice interview skills

  • Plan to take the ASVAB

When you join the Military, you join for life.

False! The length of active duty can be as little as 2 years to a lifetime. Length of service varies, but a first term generally involves 8 years, 2-4 of Active Duty, and the remainder in a Reserve unit or the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR).

The Military is just for people who like fighting.

While all servicemembers are trained to respond to threats, 91% of military jobs do not involve direct combat operations. The military offers non-combat jobs in lots of different fields. The higher you score on the ASVAB, the more options you will have. 

You don't need to finish high school to join the Military.

False!  You must have a high school diploma or equivalent to enlist. A GED is not always accepted and may require special approval.
