The selective service system is a government act that requires male U.S. citizens between the ages of 18 and 26 to register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. This information could be utilized in case of a national emergency with the need to institute the draft.

What if I don't register?

If you do not register you will not be eligible to receive any federal/state grants or loans, federal/state job training programs, federal employments, or U.S. citizenship for immigrants. You may also be subject to prosecution by the Department of Justice, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to 5 years in prison.
